Jose Mourinho could be without up to seven first team players ahead of Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Wayne Rooney, Maraoune Fellaini, Antonio Valencia and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all reportedly set to miss the clash as Mourinho bids to close the gap at the top of the Premier League table to just five points.
United go into the game having secured a 3-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium before the international break whilst Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates.
News of United’s injury woes will come as a huge blow to Mourinho who has endured a difficult start to his reign at Old Trafford but should United manage to get a result against Arsenal on Saturday it could act as the perfect springboard needed for the club to kick on for the rest of the season.
Arsenal may have started the new campaign in impressive form but there have been signs in recent weeks of the clubs old bad habits creeping back into their game and with the Gunners also set to be without several first team regulars it bring with it a real opportunity for United to take all three points.
Arsenal are a side who like to have time on the ball and like to play fast flowing football and in order for United to come out on top, Mourinho must look to get his players to attack Arsenal straight from the off, not allowing them time on the ball nor allowing them space further up the field and should he deny them that it will go a long way to Mouirnho and United the maximum three points.
Manchester United are traditionally team who kicks on after the new year and should Mourinho manage to keep the Red Devils within touching distance of the chasing pack going into the new year, I honestly believe we will have a good chance of nicking the title ahead of the favorites – Chelsea, City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
