According to reports from Sky Sports, Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is expected to be fit in time to feature during the blockbuster encounter against Arsenal this weekend.
Wayne Rooney has been in the news during the international break and it has not been for the right reasons. The week started off well for the England star after he played a key role in England’s fine 3-0 victory over Scotland in the World Cup Qualifiers on Friday night.
However, Rooney was ruled out of the friendly encounter against Spain on Tuesday after the striker had reportedly picked up a knee injury.
Later though, pictures of Rooney having gate crashed a wedding at England’s team hotel emerged and there were claims in the media that the attacker was missing against Spain due to the fact that he had enjoyed a booze filled night during the ceremony.
After the incident, the England skipper apologized by releasing the following statement through his management, “Naturally Wayne is sorry that pictures taken with fans have been published. Although it was a day off for the whole squad and staff, he fully recognises that the images are inappropriate for someone in his position.
“Earlier today Wayne spoke privately to both Gareth Southgate and [FA technical director] Dan Ashworth to unreservedly apologise. He would like to further extend that apology to any young fans who have seen these pictures.”
Nonetheless, it has been confirmed recently that Rooney did in fact miss the encounter with Spain due to injury but as a huge boost to United, revelations can be made that the attacker will be fit in time to start in the encounter against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Rooney is said to have had a scan on his knee at the Aspire medical facility in Watford on Monday and following further assessment upon his return to the Carrington training ground, the striker has been told that he will be ready to square off against Arsenal this weekend.
