There have been faint murmurs that Jose Mourinho could potentially be sacked by Manchester United. If indeed the Portuguese manager is dispensed with, the club hierarchy should look no further than Diego Simeone.
Jose Mourinho and Manchester United certainly seemed like the perfect marriage when the two joined forces this summer. Mourinho had been reeling following his unceremonious sacking by Chelsea last season, while United’s struggles over the last three years post Sir Alex Ferguson have been well documented.
Therefore, many felt that Mourinho would be able to wake United from their long slumber and also in the process restore his reputation as of the greatest modern managers in football history.
Unfortunately though, the union has gotten off to a very shaky start and there have already been rumors that Mourinho and United could be set for an extremely early divorce.
Despite Mourinho’s arrival, United have continued to struggle and given the fact that the Portuguese manager has already started falling out with a host of his first team players, report have started claimed that the 53-year-old could potentially be sacked by the Red Devils.
The English media do have the tendency to make mountains out of molehills and it seems very unlikely that Mourinho will be dispensed with so early into the season. However if indeed United do sensationally pull the trigger on Mourinho, Diego Simeone would perhaps be the ideal appointment.
Simeone is arguably one of the finest managers in world football at the moment and the job he has conducted at Atletico Madrid since joining the club as manager back in 2011, has been nothing short of amazing.
Having arguably achieved all he could at Atletico, Simeone has made his intention of wanting to leave the Vicente Calderon clear by shortening his contract to 2018 recently and this has allowed interested clubs to potentially make a swoop for the Argentinean for a lower compensation package.
Given the seemingly unlimited finances available at United, Simeone would surely be an attainable target for United and he could just be the man to turn around the club’s fortunes following three terrible seasons.
In many ways, Simeone is not too different a manager from Mourinho. The 46-year-old is a tactical mastermind and is able to get 110% out of his players every single game. However, the difference between Simeone and Mourinho at the moment is arguably the fact that the former is continually growing his stature as manager while the latter has seemingly lost his charm.
The current squad at United is more than capable of challenging for honours and Simeone would surely get the underperforming players at Old Trafford playing to their best once again if he were to arrive at Old Trafford.
Honestly though, such assumptions would be stretching the imagination a bit too far and it does look like Mourinho will continue at the helm of United for the foreseeable future as Simeone is not even available at the moment.
