According to the latest reports, Jesse Lingard is set to sign a new deal with us in the coming days. The 23-year-old has certainly divided opinions among the fans of late, but, at the same time, he has also been one of the good stories to happen at the club in the recent tumultuous times.
The academy graduate emerged on the scenes last season under Louis Van Gaal and established himself in the first-team on the back of some solid performances.
He also scored some vital goals for us last season including the FA Cup final winner against Crystal Palace. During last one year, he has emerged as one of the top young English talents in football. Last month saw him earned his first England senior caps in the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia.
Now, according to Daily Mail, we are planning to reward him with a new four-year deal. He only has 18 months left on his current deal, and we reportedly aim to tie him to a new deal as soon as possible. Lingard is currently on £30,000-a-week wages, and the new deal will reportedly double his wages.
During the summer, it was speculated that Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the club might spell an end to Lingard’s time at the club. However, the Portuguese manager has done nothing until now to suggest that he doesn’t rate the 23-year-old. He has made nine appearances for us this season, and it’s quite clear that Mourinho sees him as a vital member of his squad.
The new deal only suggests that we value him as a player and are quite convinced that he is well capable of contributing to this club in the future. The report also adds that the new deal with the club will also result in a new contract for the player from Adidas.
The club and the player are both signed to the German kit manufacturer, so a new deal can only mean good news for all parties involved. In financial terms of course.
