Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to reduce the number of players in his squad during the January transfer window.
Mourinho is said to be unhappy at the current size of his Manchester United squad and is ready to sell players in order to reduce the size of his squad.
According to the Manchester Evening News Wayne Rooney, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin are all players who could potentially depart the club in January after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Bastian Schweinsteiger hasn’t featured for United this season under Mourinho whilst both Wayne Rooney and Morgan Schneiderlin have found game time limited in recent weeks.
Whilst news of Schweinsteiger leaving the club may not come as a great surprise to anyone news of Rooney and Schneiderlin possibly departing Old Trafford is certainly more striking.
Rooney may have endured a difficult start to the new campaign but his invaluable experience combined with his ability to produce that moment of magic in games still makes him a real asset for Mourinho and is a player who can still play a big role for Manchester United between now and the end of the season whilst for Schneiderlin he has yet to be given a proper chance by Mourinho. Having only featured three times so far this season under the new United boss we have yet to see just what Schneiderlin can truly offer to the United side and to sell the Frenchman after giving him such little game time would be foolish.
With the club competing on all four fronts this season Mourinho will undoubtedly need a large number of players in his squad to choose from as he bids to take Manchester United back to the top and in Rooney and Schneidelrin he has two top draw footballers waiting in the wings who could potentially be of great use to the Portuguese as the season progresses.
