Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly open to letting Wayne Rooney leave Old Trafford next summer.
Rooney was recently dropped from the starting eleven by Mourinho after enduring a difficult start to the new campaign and it now seems as though the Portuguese is ready to sell his skipper.
The 31-year-old’s future at United has been under intense scrutiny for some time now with teams from the Chinese super league and the MLS all showing interest in the forward.
Wayne Rooney is without a doubt one of the greatest players to have ever played for Manchester United but he is no longer the force he was once was. The player we once witness tear into the opposition defence and almost single handed win games on his own is long gone and a move away from the club for both parties would probably be the best outcome at this moment in time.
Now at the age of thirty one the United faithful do not expect Rooney to be performing at the level he did in his early twenties but they still expect a certain level of quality and they haven’t seen that from their skipper for some time now.
With Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata all now way ahead of Rooney in the pecking order at Old Trafford he will undoubtedly find it difficult to earn himself a place back in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven. It is clear that the Portuguese no longer sees his skipper as first choice and should he choose to remain at the theatre of dreams he will only tarnish his legacy at the club further.
