Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has reportedly been offered the chance to play in the Chinese super league.
Rooney has been left out of the starting eleven by Mourinho in recent weeks following a run of disappointing performances.
The 30-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to China ever since president Xi launched a bid to make China a superpower in world football last year and in moving to China it could offer Rooney a perfect chance to kick start his footballing career once more.
Li Jiuquan, China’s FA marketing director recently confirmed that Rooney is massive star in China and that he can see the forward playing in the Chinese super league at some point in the near future.
Wayne Rooney is without doubt one of the greatest players to have ever played for Manchester United but he is no longer the force he was once was. The player we once witness tear into the opposition and almost single handed win games on his own is long gone and a move away from Old Trafford for both parties would probably be the best outcome.
Now at the age of thirty the United faithful do not expect Rooney to be performing at the level he did in his early twenties but they still expect a certain level of quality and they haven’t seen that from their skipper for some time now.
With Juan Mata now ahead of Rooney in the pecking order at Old Trafford he will undoubtedly find it difficult to earn himself a place back in Mourinho’s starting eleven. It is clear that the Portuguese no longer sees his skipper as first choice and should he choose to remain at Old Trafford he will only tarnish his legacy at the club further.
In moving to China it would give Rooney a perfect opportunity and to make a fresh start and in doing so allow him to end his footballing career on a high.
It’s a move that makes sense for both the player and the club and a move that could take place sooner rather than later if Rooney continues to warm the Manchester United substitutes bench.
