Manchester United may be heading into the international break in a negative mood following a 1-1 draw with Stoke City at Old Trafford on Sunday but there was one positive take from the clash against Mark Hughes men and that was Anthony Martial’s goal scoring return to the side.
The Frenchman came off the substitute’s bench in the second half to give United the lead against the potters neatly placing the ball into the top right hand corner.
Martial’s strike was his first goal of the new campaign and with Liverpool next up on the agenda for United, Martial undoubtedly deserves a place back in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven.
The Martial we seen blossom under Louis Van Gaal last season looked as though he was back on Sunday. No longer was he giving the ball away needlessly nor was he failing to beat his man down the flanks his confidence had returned and the Martial we all know and love was well and truly back.
It has been no secret that the forward had endured a difficult start to the season. Off field personal issues combined with a drop in confidence had played a key role in the Frenchman falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford but in scoring against Stoke it finally gave Martial the break he had been looking for and could act as a springboard for him for the rest of the campaign.
In starting Martial against Liverpool he would offer United far more of an attacking threat going forward. With Klopps men expected to attack United straight from the off the Portuguese will need plenty of pace out on the flanks to hit Liverpool on the counter attack and in Martial there are few better.
Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Ashley Young are all capable of coming into the side and doing a job for Mourinho but they do not possess the same quality in which Martial does should Mourinho start him against Liverpool his inclusion could prove to be the difference in United getting the three points.
