Personal Terms Agreed, Man United Set To Complete January Transfer Of £12.7m Star

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is reportedly lining up a return to Italy in the January transfer window with Inter Milan said to be interested in signing the defender.

Darmian has barley featured under Jose Mourinho so far this season and was again left out of the starting eleven by the Portuguese against Stoke City at the weekend.

The 26-year-old still has three more years to run on his current contract at Old Trafford but it is understood that United would be willing to let the defender go should any club meet their valuation for the player.

Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport claim (Via daily mail ) that Inter Milan are keen on signing Darmian and that they are ready to make a move for the player once the January transfer window has opened.

The Italian joined United last July under former head coach Louis Van Gaal but has since struggled to make any real impact at the club. His inconsistent performances combined with lack of pace going forward has led to the Italian falling further down the pecking order at Old Trafford and with news of Inter Milan’s interest in the defender it could provide Darmian an perfect opportunity to reignite his footballing career.

Jose Mourinho’s arrival to the club over the summer was always going to prove a significant moment for not only Darmian but for the rest of the Manchester United squad too. It would be the moment were we would get to see the players who Mourinho wished to keep as part of his plans and the players which he wanted to get rid of and in Darmian’s case it was clear that he was one of those players who he felt no longer had a future at Old Trafford.

Darmian is undoubtedly a talented footballer but he just isn’t what Jose Mourinho is looking for. The Portuguese likes his full-backs not only defend but to bomb forward up the pitch and in when it comes to Darmian he simply does not offer Mourinho any attacking threat going forward.

In moving to Inter Milan it would give the Italian a fantastic opportunity to play first team football on a regular basis and in doing so help rebuild his football career. For a player of his ability to be sitting in the stands every week is not fair to the player nor is it fair to the club who are paying him astronomical wages when he isn’t even playing.

Ultimately it just hasn’t worked out for Darmian and a move away from Old Trafford for both parties would be the best outcome at this moment in time.
