Griezmann Next On Manchester United’s Wish List

Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Atletico Madrid forward Antione Griezmann next summer. Mourinho is said to rate Griezmann very highly and sees the Frenchman as an ideal long-term replacement for Wayne Rooney, who may be retiring in the next few years.

Atletico are desperate to keep hold of their star man but it is thought that Griezmann would be open to making the switch to Old Trafford should the club accept any offers for him.

The forward has only recently signed a deal at the Vicente Calderon keeping him at the club until 2021.  However, in that deal a €100 million release clause has been inserted into Griezmann’s contract, meaning that should anyone bid that amount they would be allowed to speak to the player.

Manchester United have enjoyed a fantastic transfer window this summer, bringing in the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Eric Bailly to the club, and it is thought that the Jose Mourinho sees Griezmann as his next marquee signing.

It would undoubtedly take an astronomical fee to persuade Atletico to part ways with Griezmann, but should United manage to lure the forward to the Theatre of Dreams he could be the next step in Mourinho’s pursuit of getting the club back to the top of European football.

At 25 years of age, Griezmann is about to enter his prime years as a footballer.  There would be no waiting around for him to fulfill his potential and nor would we be getting a player whose best days are behind him. We would be getting a proven world class footballer here and now, and a player who can take us to the next level.

He would go straight into the starting eleven, and more importantly, be an improvement to what we currently have. His creativity on the ball and ability to provide a number of goals and assists would only benefit United, making it obvious why Mourinho is chasing his signature.

Going forward United already have a wealth of attacking talent and in adding Antoine Griezmann to the mix it would complete Jose Mourinho’s Old Trafford jigsaw. His versatility to be able to play up top, as a playmaker at number ten and out on the flanks would make him a real asset for United.

We may have to wait until next summer to see Griezmann in a Manchester United shirt but rest assured it would be worth the wait.
