Anthony Martial’s slow start to the new campaign continued last night as he was once again substituted in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Hull City at the KC Stadium.
The Frenchman has failed to hit the ground this season and has been substituted off the pitch in each of United’s opening three league games.
The 20-year-old only lasted 59 minutes on the field against the tigers before being replaced by new club signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
In the three games thus far for United Martial has only managed four attempts on goal and has an equally poor take on success rate standing at a mere 33%.
His recent drop in performance has alarmed sections of the United faithful who are now calling for Mourinho to drop Martial from the side and replace him with Mkhitaryan.
Think I’ve seen the light. Mourinho won’t drop Rooney. Mata will play too. So Mkhitaryan will take Martial’s place.

Drop Martial for acting up. Can’t be 20 and already act like a moody drama queen…

Mkhitaryan has yet to start a game for his new club and should Martial continue his poor form, it may not be too long before we see Mourinho name the Armenian skipper in the Manchester United starting eleven ahead of the Frenchman.
Having impressed throughout his debut campaign last season, things could not look any different for the youngster this time round. Off field issues surrounding the player’s personal life combined with his displeasure at having to change his squad number seems to have affected the Frenchman this season.
The Anthony Martial we all seen blossom last season has gone and there are no signs of him returning any time soon. No longer are we seeing him running at defenders nor are we seeing him put the ball in the back of the net. He has lot that edge and it’s down to Martial to get that back.
Mourinho choosing to drop Martial from the starting eleven could be exactly what the Frenchman needs at this moment in time. His poor performances in the opening games do not merit a start in the Manchester derby on September 10th and it would come as no surprise if the Portuguese did exactly that.
Martial needs a timely reminder that his place in the starting eleven isn’t a given. In the past Martial was almost guaranteed a place in the side no matter how poor and well he performed, he was the star man and want going to get dropped, this time round however it is much different.
Having a bundle of attacking talent in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan now at the club, Mourinho has plenty of options to choose from and should Martial’s performances not improve he will be warming the substitutes bench sooner rather than later.
