It has been a good week for Manchester United and their fans, with the news and recovery of first-team squad members from injury and then the announcement on Thursday afternoon that the club have signed Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer, based on a 18-month-contract.
Valdes had been training with the team and backroom staff since the start of October as Louis van Gaal was helping his recovery from a serious injury picked up back in March 2014 for FC Barcelona.
The news on Thursday of his signing, was also met with glee from Manchester United fans as it was revealed that Valdes turned down bitter rivals Liverpool, rather than being their number one he would prefer to be the number two at Old Trafford.
“It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United. I would like to thank Louis van Gaal and the club for allowing me to do my rehabilitation and to train with the team at the Aon Training Complex.
“From my short time here I can already see this is a very special club.
“I worked with Louis van Gaal during my time at FC Barcelona and to have the opportunity to work with him here at Manchester United is a dream come true.”
