PICTURE: Rafael Da Silva in hospital, back training on Friday

Rafael has taken to social media this evening to quash rumours of a long lay-off following reports of a fractured cheekbone sustained in United’s 3rd Round FA Cup tie against Yeovil Town at the weekend.

The Brazilian confirmed that he had had surgery to correct the issue and that he was due to return to training later this week. United’s number 2 will wear a protective face mask and tweeted, “Operation was perfect back training normal on Friday very happy. thanks god for everything”.

Whilst United’s Sunday afternoon fixture versus Southampton may come too early for the full back, fans can look forward to seeing him back in action soon.

In his post-match comments following United’s win at Yeovil, Louis van Gaal confirmed that Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo are on their way back from injury and could feature in the near future. And following his goal scoring substitute display in the FA Cup, Angel Di Maria has successfully overcome a pelvic injury to ease pressure on the United squad.
