Match Preview & Predicted XI: Arsenal v Man Utd

Injuries once again are set to cause Louis van Gaal major selection problems ahead of a crucial game against a top four rival

Louis van Gaal once again has major injury problems ahead of a big game. Although their is some positivity as the United manager confirmed David De Gea and Angel Di Maria are both fit to start after picking up minor injuries for their national teams during the international break. Michael Carrick will be assessed on Friday before van Gaal makes a decision on whether the English midfielder will play against Arsenal. Luke Shaw is another injury doubt after he like Carrick picked up an injury while with the England squad. With Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind both out until the Christmas period  if Shaw cant play against Arsenal Louis van Gaal will have to go into the youth team to find cover at left back. That will most likely come from Reece James who impressed during the Summer tour of America and has featured a few times this season in the senior team. Tyler Blackett is also able to play at left back but is more adapt to play centre back which means James will most likely be selected in the event that Luke Shaw cant play.

Many had hoped that striker Radamel Falcao would be able to feature against Arsenal but the manager confirmed on Friday that he wont be available to him for another two weeks. Johnny Evans, Rafael and Phil Jones are also still ruled out of first team action. Although Johnny Evans looks set to feature for the u21’s on Tuesday as he looks to build up his fitness. Louis van Gaal will be able to call on Chris Smalling again after he served a one match ban for his red card against Manchester City.

Manchester United will come up against Danny Welbeck for the first time since he left United. Louis van Gaal claimed that Welbeck’s record isn’t up to the standard of Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney. Despite van Gaal’s claim Welbeck isn’t up to the standard needed at United the striker has scored more goals that Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao this season. Arsenal do have injury concerns of their own with them expected to play Naxto Monreal at centre back with the continued injury absence of Laurent Koilscenly at centre back. This match looks set to be the battle of the makeshift defences with neither side able to select a first choice back four.
