Manchester United youngster, James Wilson has revealed that manager Louis Van Gaal convinced him to change his shirt number for this forthcoming season. Wilson, 18, wore the number 47 shirt last season and made his full team debut against Hull City in that shirt but this season he is wearing the number 49.
Wilson, who came off the bench in yesterday`s draw with leaders Chelsea explained why:
“As I’m a striker, the gaffer wanted me to have a nine in my number, and 49 was the closest,” he told United`s in house television channel, MUTV.
Wilson was also on the scoresheet for the Under-21s in their win at West Ham on Friday night and came off the bench on Sunday to give some much needed support to lone striker, Robin Van Persie.
Wilson has been hailed by many at United as a goal machine. Michael Carrick this week praised the youngster and Nicky Butt who works with the youngsters at United claims he is the best striker in the penalty box at the club. High praise indeed and with Louis Van Gaal in charge giving youth plenty of chance he is in good hands despite the glut of striking options currently at Old Trafford.
