Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is set to be joined alongside new signing Marcos Rojo in a press conference on Friday afternoon at Carrington, but the new United manager has already hailed the talents of United’s latest signing.
United signed the Argentinean international on Wednesday from Sporting Lisbon for a fee in the region of £16million, with a loan move for Luis Nani going the other way.
Marcos Rojo and his Argentinean squad came in second place in this summers World Cup over in Brazil, and the defender can play in a number of positions. He has been bought by Manchester United as mainly a centre-back, but he can also cover Luke Shaw’s left-back position if needed. Rojo is a signing that the United boss is very exited about.
Speaking with Manchester United’s Official Website, Louis van Gaal said:
“Marcos is a very gifted defender. He has played at the highest level in world football and can play either as a central defender or left-back.
“He has ability, physical strength and a willingness to learn that means he has a very bright future ahead of him.
“He had a very strong World Cup and has been playing in Europe for a couple of years now. He is a very good addition to the team.”
Rojo could make his Manchester United debut on Sunday when they travel to Sunderland in the Premier League.
