TRANSFERS: Are Louis van Gaal’s concerns holding up the Arturo Vidal deal?

It has been the name that has been floating about all summer, that of Arturo Vidal moving to Manchester United and being Louis van Gaal’s star man in the centre of midfield for the new season. But, now, according to the head Chilian coach, could be off due to concerns from the new Manchester United manage of fitness.

Louis van Gaal has had a fantastic pre-season with Manchester United over in the US. Concentrating much of the training time on fitness itself, preparing players for the tough Premier League season.

Arturo Vidal had a knee injury prior to this summer’s World Cup over in Brazil, but played in three of Chile’s matches, now it has been revealed that knee injuries and niggles such as this for Vidal is a concern for all those at Manchester United. If the club are to bid £47million for a player, they want to know that these injury issues are not going to be a huge problem for the future.

Chilian head-coach Jorge Sampaoli confirmed that Manchester United were keen on the 27-year-old, but admitted that the fitness and knee issues with Arturo Vidal could put an end to any deal.

Speaking with El Mercurio, Jorge Sampaoli said:

“United want Vidal but [Louis] Van Gaal has doubts,

“Vidal was a great example during the World Cup in Brazil of not playing in the best of conditions.

“Manchester United want him, but what restrains his move to England for $80million is [Louis] Van Gaal, who has doubts over his condition to the knee.”

With Michael Carrick out for a further 10 weeks, the midfield situation at Manchester United is one that needs addressing, although new signing Ander Herrera alongside Darren Fletcher have had a good pre-season tour.

Do you think the deal for Arturo Vidal will still happen?
