Manchester United are all set to face Real Madrid in their biggest challenge of the pre-season tour of the United States thus far. Knowing that a win will see them through to the final of the cup. Louis van Gaal’s men have notched up three victories on the bounce this pre-season in the US, beating LA Galaxy, AS Roma and Inter Milan in the process.
Louis van Gaal would like nothing more than to beat Real Madrid, so we think that he will be running out with his strongest squad on the tour, below is what United Ramble think will be the starting XI:
Manchester United’s Goalkeeper
Louis van Gaal has made sure that all four travelling goalkeepers have had some game time this pre-season, but he will no doubt go with the strongest of the four, which is undoubtedly Spanish keeper David De Gea.
Manchester United’s Defence
We would expect the back line to be the same as the one that started against Inter Milan, apart from the the right hand sided wing-back which against Milan was Ashley Young. Despite his fitness levels being questioned by Van Gaal we can see new Manchester United signing Luke Shaw coming back into the squad from the start with Antonio Valencia taking up the other wing-back position on the left. A back three main line of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans.
Manchester United’s Midfield
Darren Fletcher has had a good pre-season thus far over in the United States, so we expect him to start in the centre of the park alongside new Manchester United signing Ander Herrera once again with Spaniard Juan Mata playing just in front of them and behind the front line.
Manchester United’s Forwards
There have been a ring of changes for every position during this pre-season, with Louis van Gaal almost playing two separate teams for each half. But being as this is Real Madrid, and a win will see United through to the final on Monday night he will undoubtedly go with his strongest from two, which is Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck. If the result is going in favour of United then expect a feature of Javier Hernandez, Jesse Lingard or William Keane during the second half.
