Manchester United set bid £20million for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels

The defence of Manchester United is one that needs to be addressed this summer after the void that has been left by the experience of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand needs to be filled. None would be better to slot straight in than that of Mats Hummels, who is reportedly ready to make a £20million move to Old Trafford, according to Friday’s Daily Mirror.

Louis van Gaal has openly praise Jonny Evans over in the United States where Manchester United are preparing to face Spanish giants Real Madrid on Saturday, but with the new United boss changing the formation to either 3-5-2 or 4-3-3 with their current squad maybe not good enough for the new season at the back, with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling still needing to prove themselves.

Van Gaal is said to be a huge admirer of the centre-back Mats Hummels, who is currently still on holiday after winning the World Cup with Germany over in Brazil.

Borussia Dortmund coach and all round character Jorgen Klopp had previous laughed off a €20million deal with Manchester United, saying:

“What are we talking about today? Mats to Manchester United? For how much? €20million? With those kind of sums, can you forget that straight away”

Ed Woodward is currently back in Manchester, dealing with various commercial ventures and the new sale of shares from the Glazer family. He had previously mentioned that money was not a problem for Manchester United this summer, no better time to get the bank card out than buying an experienced central defender than that of Mats Hummels.
