Youth football and Manchester United go hand in hand, the history, the Class of 92′ and the clubs fantastic record in the Youth Cups down the years.
Now, Manchester United are setting their sights on one of the United Kingdom’s most promising youngsters, one that has even been compared of that to the famous Gareth Bale of Real Madrid.
His name is Oscar Borg, from West Ham United. A 16-year-old winger who has been on trial at Manchester United over the past 18-days, firstly playing in a friendly for the Under-18s, before travelling with Manchester United’s Under-17s to compete in this summer’s Dale Farm Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.
Borg has started both of Manchester United fixtures over in Ireland, playing well.
He has now reportedly, by the Daily Mail, turned down a chance to extend his contract at West Ham United, paving the way for Manchester United to come in and turn the trial into a full contract at Old Trafford.
Oscar Borg is a natural left-back, who is also capable of playing as a winger. If Manchester United are serious in bringing the youngster to Old Trafford then they will have to pay a nominal fee of around £220,000. But looking at the rave reviews about Borg, a small price to pay for a future star.
It is great to see youth come through at Manchester United, much anticipation from the new season around youngsters James Wilson and Tom Lawrence. Hopefully Oscar Borg is one to watch for the future if Manchester United can secure his signature this summer.
