A common trend in the modern transfer window in the domino effect that one deal has on others. Last summer we saw a clear link in the Gervinho, Lamela, Bale and Ozil deals as money transferred between Roma, Arsenal, Spurs and Madrid. It can take one big move to set the transfer market in full flow which adds to its excitement and unpredictability. The current window hangs in the balance over talks between Liverpool and Barcelona over Luis Suarez which could result in a myriad of deals taking place as the cash flows from club to club. El Confidencial however believe that super agent Jorge Mendes is attempting to create his own ‘transfer-merry-go-round’ by pushing Di Maria out of Madrid to Manchester United and opening the door for World Cup ace James Rodriguez to become the latest Galactico.

This report might sound far-fetched but Mendes is a shrewd operator and the move would represent a huge pay day for him as he represents both players involved. United’s interest in Di Maria has appeared to have waned in recent months but it is common knowledge that the club are chasing a new winger for Van Gaal and after his amazing display in the Champions league final, they don’t come better than Angel Di Maria.
Problems may arise in the fee which El Confidencial reports to be in the region of 50 million Euros. Whilst the Argentinean may be worth every penny it could disrupt plans to further bolster the midfield and defence and it is unlikely there would be any movement on this potential deal until Rodriguez, Di Maria and Van Gaal are back from international duty.
