As the World Cup continues over in Brazil so do the daily transfer rumours that involve Manchester United, this morning the British press went with that a deal had been agreed in principle that Thomas Vermaelen will make a move to Old Trafford this summer.
But, fresh speculation from journalist John Cross at the Mirror state that Tom Cleverley could be heading the other way as part of the deal for Thomas Vermaelen. A straight swap as you would with many a Panini sticker to fill your World Cup book.
Arsenal were said to have been interested in United’s Chris Smalling in the January transfer window, but now reports claim that Arsene Wenger is keeping a close eye on the United midfield outcast as speculation grows for the youngsters departure as Louis van Gaal looks to bring in a set of new players.
Manchester United are set to open talks with Arsenal regarding a £10million offer for Belgium defender Vermaelen, who is currently over in Brazil. The 28-year-old seems surplus to requirements at the Emirates of late, being knocked down the pecking order and not helped by injuries over the past 18-months.
Manchester United are set to offer Vermaelen a bumper deal of up to £100,000 a week to move to Old Trafford, an amount that seems an awful lot for an injury hit defender.
The rumours regarding Tom Cleverley would be a good move, well for many Manchester United fans any move away from Old Trafford would be a good one in regards to Cleverley.
