Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic believes that England will surprise many fans at the World Cup finals over in Brazil.
The Serbian will be watching this summers World Cup before making his move over to Italy to join up with his new team Inter Milan, But he is more than reluctant to predict who will eventually win this years crown, but doesn’t rule out that England could surprise the World.
Manchester United have representation from Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck in the England camp, and all will be targeting results in their group against Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.
Speaking with manutd.com, Nemanja Vidic said:
“If you ask me about England, to be fair, I think they have more chance this year than last time
“Maybe they have better players and I think the environment around the national team is better with lower expectations and this will help the players. I think there is not the same kind of pressure from the media and, as they don’t expect too much, there is a chance to do something. I’m not saying they are going to win it but they could do well.”
When quized about who he thought would be lifting this summers biggest crown, he said:
“In terms of lifting the trophy, if you look at the names now then you have to say Spain are always going to be the team with the most chance, and Germany often do well in these kind of competitions.
“I don’t know about Italy as they have mixed a few old players with youngsters and have struggled with Giuseppe Rossi’s injury.
“I don’t know if he is going to be ready for the World Cup and I think he’s an important player for them.
“You never know though as I’m never very good at predictions. I bet the countries I don’t mention will have a better chance of winning it!”
