After weeks of speculation, Manchester United have finally announced that 62-year-old Louis van Gaal will be the next manager, taking over from interim manager Ryan Giggs after David Moyes was sacked.
Ed Woodward, who has been in constant contact with Louis van Gaal for the past 18-days, is set to hand the new manager a budget of £100-£150million to build on Manchester United’s squad this summer, with Luke Shaw rumoured to be the first signing before the World Cup starts.
By all accounts, it sounds like van Gaal had started his job early, by informing Woodward that Rio Ferdinand was not in his plans for the 2014/15 season, thus why the club did not offer him a new contract – The one thing that van Gaal seems to be, is ruthless. Whether on or off the pitch, exactly what Manchester United are craving since the departure of the lacklustre David Moyes.
